What is happening in Melvern?
Melvern
held its second community meeting on November 27th, 2006, in the
Melvern Community Center. The focus of the evening was to
discuss the process for identifying community assets and to build
resource assessment teams.
By using their individual
expertise and a little old-fashioned detective work, these
community teams will identify resources within several
categories—including water, wildlife,
native plants, history and
culture, infrastructure, and land use. Once
they
have gathered necessary
information, the teams
will begin coming up with ideas for developing and conserving
these important assets.
Each community is a unique
living system with its own unique interests, needs, and values.
By evaluating its critical resources and planning for its future,
Melvern is committed
to
keeping this vital system healthy.

Documents column to the right.
Melvern’s first
public meeting was held on Saturday, November 4, 2006, at the Melvern
Community Center, and a good crowd of community
members turned out
to learn more
about the Healthy
Ecosystems project
and
discuss what
community members value
most
about Melvern, as
well
as what they would
like to see improve.

Melvern also
invited a new group of leaders to the Melvern Fall Festival on October
28, 2006. The Melvern PRIDE Youth Group worked with Margie Beatty
on some fun water activities for youth. There were
also water-related models, as well as information about the “Citizen
Science” test kits and how to receive test kit training to monitor
water quality on your farm.
Danny Rice will
also be working with
Melvern
High School students this year on a local water quality monitoring
program. A big thanks goes out to the Melvern educators for
volunteering their time and expertise to help Melvern’s youth
understand the importance of water quality!
