Potwin PRIDE

Following a planning session in June of 2009, Potwin PRIDE decided to work on park improvements. The local school district had donated some playground equipment to the city that was lying in tall grass at the back of the ballpark. With the approval of the city council in July of 2010, two volunteers agreed to put the equipment up at the baseball field. The two moved the equipment, dug holes, welded weak spots, replaced bolts and even some added additional pipe where parts were missing. The equipment was then cemented into the ground. The setup and materials totaled 30 hours of labor and $330. But that was just the beginning - next volunteers power washed and painted the equipment - another 20 hours of labor and $50.00 for paint. The project was completed in August of 2010. The project was well worth the effort. When photos were posted on Potwin PRIDE'S Facebook page the comments included "What a great thing to do!" Another woman posted "Thank you to all the people who were involved in the project, makes you proud of our town". And finally "The kids will really enjoy this during the events this weekend at the park". Amazing what 50 hours, $380.00 and some used, refurbished playground equipment can do for a community!

The Kansas PRIDE Program...
Building Better Communities

The Kansas PRIDE Program is a partnership of K-State Research and Extension, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and Kansas PRIDE, Inc.

PRIDE is dedicated to serving communities across the state to encourage and assist local government and volunteers in making their community a better place to live and work.

Through the PRIDE program, local communities identify what they would like to preserve, create, or improve for their future. Then, working with the resources of K-State Research & Extension and the Kansas Department of Commerce, community volunteers pull together to create their ideal community future. To learn more about the Kansas PRIDE Program, we invite you to look through the resources and links available at this website, or contact the PRIDE staff.
